Messengers

Messengers are wolves who serve the various Gods of Ancient Ireland. Messengers are almost exclusively male and though they come from relatively small packs, always work in at least pairs. It is not unusual for there is be several Messengers to one Deity, but the standard minimum is two. The Messenger Packs can be broken up by rank:

Ranks

Messenger Father

The Alpha Male and father of the pups within the pack. He serves the Deity associated with the pack and trains his pups to do the same. Mated for life to the pack's Immortal Mother, the Alpha pair share a strong bond and lead the pack together. It is not uncommon for him to be immortal like his mate, but as a Messenger, his title is more closely associated with his powers and duty. Some packs will also include the Messenger Father's siblings, but the Alpha Male is usually the eldest of his siblings and they generally do not receive the same chances to reproduce.

Immortal Mother

The Alpha Female and mother of the pups within the pack. She has no powers, but is essential to the functioning of the pack. She is a constant support to her mate, the Messenger Father. She raises and cares for their offspring and maintains the pack if he is away. Since Messengers are largely male, when a female is born to the pack it is seen as a sign that the Immortal Mother will soon be passing on her immortality to her daughter. With the loss of her immortality, the Immortal Mother soon dies. Occasionally, the young Immortal Mother will decide to leave her pack and start a new one. In this case, her mother will not die or pass on her powers to her daughter.

Messengers in Training

The young pups who are destined to serve the Deity of their pack. A pup is considered a Messenger in Training until their powers are fully awakened and their colours have grown in completely. As soon as pups are old enough to begin training, they are considered Messengers in Training. They are raised by their parents and trained by their father.

Important Notes

  • Twins are rare, Messenger births are normally single pup births.
  • Messengers have much longer lives than normal wolves, even if they are not immortal.
  • Packs are always small and breedings are rare.
  • If two Messengers have a pup, there is a chance their pup could serve the Mother's Deity. It is just much more likely to take after the Father. This is not a concrete rule, as there is magic involved.
